This Month’s Featured Artists: Invoke Austin’s favorite genre-bending string quartet Invoke! Described as “...not anything but everything: Classical, Folk, Bluegrass, Americana and a sound yet to be termed seamlessly merged into a perfect one,” says David Srebnik, SiriusXM Classical Producer. Invoke—Nick Montopoli (violin/banjo/vocals), Zach Matteson (violin/vocals), Karl Mitze (viola/mandolin/vocals), and Geoff Manyin (cello/vocals)—defies easy labels. Drawing on bluegrass, Appalachian fiddle tunes, jazz, minimalism, and chamber tradition, the quartet weaves these threads into original works composed by and for the group. As Strings Magazine notes, “the remarkable string quartet Invoke has repeatedly proven one thing over its first 11 years: it simply cannot be contained by any one label.” Expect energy, storytelling, and musical surprises.
